In this Q&A, Christopher shares his insights on home improvement, design preferences, and the personal touches that make a house feel like home, from favorite paint colors to curb appeal tips, and even the pets that bring joy to his everyday life.

Q: What is an outdated home trend you hope doesn’t come back?

A: I’m hoping as I imagine everyone does, the sprayed acoustic ceiling we commonly refer to as “popcorn” ceiling never makes a comeback of any kind.

Q: What’s your favorite paint color?

A: I’ll have to go with Taupe as my favorite paint color currently.  I love it because it can go warm or cool and has such modest, reliable, and practical qualities.

Q: What’s one outdoor tip for big impact in landscaping or curb appeal?

A: I would have to say lighting. Good exterior lighting can add a magical quality to a home. It infuses your home with drama and architectural depth. It can be cleverly used to emphasize your home’s architectural strengths, while drawing attention away from any shortcomings.

Q: Tell us about your pet(s).

A: Let me tell you about our pets. We have two majestic adult cats and an adorable puppy. Titus and Grayson are our cats. Stella is our puppy. Both cats were rescues - Titus was a feral kitten and Grayson a sheltered one-year-old. Grayson appears to be a Maine Coon and Titus, a Turkish Van. Stella is our new addition. She’s an irresistible one and half year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Stella came home as an eight-week-old 4 lb. puppy. Titus and Grayson are 17 and 18 lbs. We couldn’t be sure if the cats’ interest in tiny Stella was a result of a hunting instinct or simple curiosity. Stella was so small. Titus, the alpha always hovered near her. Soon enough it became clear, he was lording over her - overseeing her as part of his tribe. We now refer to him as Mufasa. We are one big happy, multi-species family.

Q: Are you a plant fanatic, or is your green thumb lacking?

A: Yes!  I love plants. I love how they soften linear features of all construction. I do have a “green thumb” when time allows. However, I’ve adopted a preference for artificial trees and plants due to the freedom they provide. A green thumb requires a consistent connection to your greenery. My current lifestyle challenges that connection. My green thumb is reserved now for an array of succulents and orchids.
